The Theileria parva Genome Database
TIGR and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in Nairobi,
Kenya have sequenced the genome of Theileria parva, the causative agent
of East Coast fever in cattle. The T. parva nuclear genome consists of 4
chromosomes and is approximately 8.3 Mb in length. The 39.5 kbp apicoplast
genome sequence was also determined.
This whole genome shotgun project has been deposited at GenBank/EMBL/DDNJ
under the project accession AAGK00000000
Sequencing of the T. parva genome was supported by the TIGR Board of Trustees, ILRI, and J. Craig Venter. Additional support was provided by
the U.K. Department for International Development, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and the Rockefeller Foundation.
