Mouse BAC Ends

Sequences from the ends of bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) clones provide highly specific markers. A whole genome sequencing approach has been described in a map-as-you-go strategy. The complete sequence of a seed BAC is searched against a BAC end database and the minimally overlapping clones in each direction are selected for sequencing.

End sequences of 170,634 clones from the entire library RPCI-23 and 130,000 clones from library RPCI-24 will be generated by TIGR within this year. The same set of clones are also being fingerprinted by Dr. Marco Marra's group at Genome Sequencing Centre of British Columbia Cancer Research Centre at Vancouver Canada. The project is funded by NIH.
